Sweep the Earth Resource for Social Media

We are 5 days away from General Conference which will create an opportunity for the hashtag #LDSConf to trend worldwide as it has done so in past general conferences. We encourage you to share your uplifting thoughts and feelings about what you hear this weekend on your own social media accounts.

As we know the items that get the most likes and shares on social media are the ones that are visually pleasing. However it take TIME, skill, and computer software to create visually pleasing messages. If it is your talent to make those messages I do appreciate you and want to help share the messages you create. I am one who is not talented in creating the visual images and so I relay on images that the church creates and other’s create to share on my social media accounts.

One resource that I want to mention today is SweepTheEarth.me. When the site first started I read about it in a news article and submitted my email address. I get maybe one email every other month with good messages that can be shared. This is the email that I received this morning.

“Dear friends,

Youtube Success Story in Online Mormon Missionary Work

This is just a short video I made telling of the success of Shay Carl in sharing his beliefs on his youtube channel and how baptisms resulted from it.

Mormon Member Missionaries Can Share the Gospel Answering Questions Online

Mormon Member Missionaries Can Share the Gospel Answering Questions Online

If you are looking for a good missionary activity that will invite your fellow man to come unto Christ, one idea might be to answer the questions that people are asking on the internet. This can be done using Quora.com or yahoo answers plus many other website.

To be effective in sharing what we know to be God’s truth we should not limit ourselves to topics that just deal with Mormonism or the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Instead we should branch out and cover other topics that can help people. This might be suicide, depressions, emergency preparedness, home school, child rearing, after death beliefs, education concerns etc. We can answer many of peoples life questions by using quote from Apostles and Prophets or just sharing God’s Plan of Salvation. The more truths of the gospel that we share the more chances a person has of becoming interested in our message.

Use Local Search to Increase Visitors to LDS Chapels

I believe that a part of LDS online missionary work can be to teach google that they should send seekers of Christian Churches to the Mormon Church. Google and other search engines have power in our lives. The really are engines that direct us on the path we take. If we make Google’s search engine our investigator, he will give us plenty of future referrals.

The question how most people have with this is how do I teach Google to send those seeking for a new church to our church. That is what I attempt to teach in the video below. It really isn’t that difficult to do, it just takes a bit of time.

The video asks you to use https://moz.com/local to determine what citations are missing for you ward building and to correct them.

More Effective LDS Online Missionary Work

LDS Online Missionary Work can more effective or less effective depending on what your activity. Every returned  Mormon missionary is well aware that member referrals is much more effective at converting to baptisms than knocking on doors to find potential investigators. The same is true about missionary work on the internet.

The above video is about that members are doing good online missionary work but not the Better and Best online missionary work. One of the major issues has been that leadership in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has not provided members, ward missionaries, nor full time missionaries with effective training tools on how to use the internet to find those who are actually seeking for the restore gospel of Jesus Christ in their life.

Please watch the video below and feel free to leave any comments on what you think are the good, better and best things that we can do with online missionary work. There are probably hundreds of ideas.

If you are not a member of the church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints but would like to find out why we as members are interested in sharing our faith online, I invite you to chat with one of our missionaries at https://www.mormon.org/chat.

Using Yelp to Find Mormon Investigators

The great thing about yelp is that you read reviews left about churches in your area. If someone left a negative review about a church we can reach out to them and invite them to attend our church.

The internet is wonderful to sort out what people are actually thinking and wanting. This is done all the time with advertising. Google remembers your previous search terms and can even scan your gmail for things that might be interesting to a person. This makes for effective advertising. By doing something similar online Mormon missionaries can likewise find people interested in hearing the message of modern prophets and apostles by finding those who are dissatisfied with their current church. Yelp is just one of those tools to put in our tool belt to help find those who might benefit from a personalized invitation to attend The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
